How to Ask for the Massage Pressure You Prefer

Guest discussing massage pressure with a therapist

Describe the pressure you enjoy when booking, then adjust it with your therapist during the massage. Light, medium or firm is a useful starting point; naming an area makes the request clearer. For example, "medium overall, lighter on my shoulders".

01

Describe pressure by area

You can prefer different pressure on different areas. Say what you want included, where you would like more time and anything to leave out.

Medium pressure overall, gentle on my shoulders, and more time on my back.

If you are unsure, start with a lighter feel and ask for an adjustment.

02

Choose pace and movement as well

Pressure is only one part of the experience. You may prefer slow palm strokes, less elbow work or no stretching. Those details help you choose a massage and explain what you enjoy.

Use the phrases above during the session too. You can request a change without waiting until the massage ends.

03

Find a service that matches your preference

For flowing oil strokes and kneading, explore Body Massage or Balinese Massage. For slower, focused forearm and elbow work, see Deep Tissue Massage. For clothed pressure and assisted movement, explore Thai Massage.

The massage name does not set one fixed pressure. Tell the therapist how you want it to feel and ask for changes whenever needed.

04

Include your preference when booking

Hi Zion, I would like a 60-minute massage with flowing oil strokes, medium pressure and no stretching. Which massage would suit those preferences? Please share a time for tomorrow afternoon and a quote.

Mention any areas you want left out. Once you choose the service, confirm the session length and available time.
